Elizabeth Van Lew died penniless and more or less alone because she had sold everything in support of the cause and support of liberating the enslaved people because all the white people around her hated her for working on the side of the union, but she was in it until the end and she was a true ally.
So if there were any quotes from her, I’ve never looked to see if there were any that existed now, but yeah. I think she should be given her due.
